VHDM Stacker System from Molex Offers High Density and Increased Speed

LISLE, Ill. – April 26, 2004 – Achieve high density and increased speeds up to 2.5 Gbps of bandwith per signal pair in mezzanine board-to-board applications with the new VHDM* 8-Row Stacker System from Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA). Ideal for both single-ended and differential signaling, the VHDM 8-Row Stacker System is used in applications such as telecommunication equipment, test systems, high-end servers, memory storage systems, and cellular base stations.

The VHDM 8-Row Stacker System has a high speed/high density mezzanine design with 18.00 mm (.709”) stack height and 100 real circuits per inch. With a 2.00 by 2.25 mm (0.79 by 0.89”) pitch, the system provides 40 contacts per centimeter. It uses the same proven wafer design, separable interface, and press-fit compliant pins as the standard VHDM connector family; however; the VHDM 8-Row Stacker System also offers flexibility for parallel board connections and has less than five percent cross talk.

“From telecommunications equipment and test systems to memory storage systems and high end servers, complex applications today often require mezzanine style interconnects that are high speed, high density, and differential pair capable,” said Jeff Torres, associate product manager, Connector Products Division, Molex Incorporated. “Molex’s VHDM 8-Row Stacker System enables our customers to not only achieve higher density, but also speeds up to 2.5 Gbps.”

The VHDM 8-Row Stacker System has a wafer construction that accurately permits ground plane locations relative to the signal contacts for improved impedance control. Its eye-of-the-needle, press-fit receptacles and headers allow for tight spacing without solder bridging between contact tails, increased repair ability, and a highly reliable termination to the PCB. The system also mates with existing standard VHDM backplane headers. Plus, it has ground planes between signal columns that provide:

  • Tightly controlled impedance for rise times down to 200 picosecond
  • Very low cross talk between signals within a column
  • Extremely low cross talk between signal columns

The VHDM Stackers System offers flexibility at an affordable cost. Typical lead-time is seven weeks.
